Lemon

Citrus × limon, the lemon tree, is a small perennial fruit tree. Its fruit is the lemon (in Arabic, ليمون, laimún, from the Persian laimú or laimún), an edible fruit with an acid taste and extremely fragrant that is used mainly in food.

The lemon is native to Asia (Assam, a region in northeast India, northern Burma and China), and was unknown to the Greeks and Romans.

It was first mentioned in the Nabathae Treatise on Agriculture around the 3rd or 4th century. Its cultivation was not developed in the West until after the Muslim conquest of the Iberian Peninsula, when it spread throughout the Mediterranean coast where it is cultivated profusely, due to the mild climate, Its fruit has a high content of vitamin C (501, 6 mg / l) and citric acid (49.88 g / l).
