Chile’s historical advantages in trade openness, production costs and export windows have been lost, which together with the volume to be exported by competitors, will generate greater pressure in the competitive environment.
The favorable conditions in Chile have allowed us a sustained growth of the agricultural area, turning the sector into an engine of economic development and consolidating us as a world benchmark. However, some species could be at risk due to the loss of fruit competitiveness in Chile.
One of the fundamental issues is the value of labor, which in countries such as Peru and Argentina is considerably lower – compared to Chile – in addition to the fact that our competitors would be better positioned than Chile in terms of tariffs.
